About Us

Haight Crop Insurance specializes in Federal Crop Insurance in the Inland Northwest, serving approximately 350 growers with more than 25 different crop insurance products. Our goal is to provide our clients with a thorough understanding of the various crop insurance products we offer so they can effectively manage the risks of their farming operations.

We pride ourselves on the knowledge and service we provide our clients.

Amitti Johnston

Amitti was born and raised in Lewiston, ID and graduated from the University of Idaho in 2012. She began working for Haight Crop Insurance in 2014 while earning her Master's degree in Public Administration from Eastern Washington University. Within a year, she became a full-time agent with the company. Amitti and Gretchen met through their work at a summer camp for type-1 diabetic children, and since both women are diabetics themselves, there is always a steady supply of juice and granola bars at the office!

Gretchen Strasser

Gretchen is a graduate of Eastern Washington University and began working for Janet at Haight Crop Insurance in 2004. After nearly ten years in the business, she purchased the company from her mother in 2013 and is now the President and Owner of Haight Crop Insurance. Gretchen handles not only the day-to-day paperwork that crop insurance entails, but also takes great pride in building and maintaining personal relationships with our clients.

Janet Haight

Janet was raised on a corn, soybean, and cattle farm in central Illinois where her family still lives.  After spending her first 18 years in crop insurance training underwriters and administering various crop insurance programs in the Northwest, she established Haight Crop Insurance in 1993. After selling the business to her daughter, Janet now spends her time as a consultant for the company and vacationing to Palm Springs, CA in the winters.

Mick Rice

Mick grew up on a corn, alfalfa, cattle, and hog farm in Nebraska and joined Haight Crop Insurance in 2007.  He worked for the USDA for 32 years, including almost 30 years with the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation, where he was involved in program development, administration, oversight, marketing, and claims.  Mick's primary focus with our agency is on helping growers in Western Oregon and Washington, particularly with Whole Farm Revenue Protection.

NCIS Crop Insurance Agent Interview

In 2016, National Crop Insurance Services asked to interview our agents and a few of our farmers about their experiences in the Northwest Ag Industry. Watch the video below to see Gretchen and Janet share their expertise, as well as hearing a variety of growers talk about their trades!
